By the Fugees/ Lauren Hill
Chorus: Lauryn Hill
Ready or not, Here I come, You can't hide
Gonna find you, and take it slowly
Ready or not, Here I come, You can't hide
Gonna find you, and make you want me
Verse One: Wyclef
Now that I escape sleep walk away
those who convolate knows the world they hate
Jails bars ain't golden gates
those who fake they brake when they meet they four hundred pound mate if i could rule the world, everyone who have a gun and together of course we'd get the up in our their horse I kick a rhyme drinking moon shine
I poor sip on the concrete, for the deceased
but no don't weep, Wyclef in a state of sleep
thinking about the robbe-RY that I did last WEEK
Money in the bag, bank a look like a drag
I wanna play with pelicans from here to Bagdad
Gun blast, think fast I think I'm hit
My girl pinch's my hips to see if I still exist
I think not, I send a letter to my friends
A born again, hooligan only to be king again
Chorus
Verse Two: Lauryn Hill
yo, I play my enemies like a game of chess
where I rest no stress if you don't smoke cess, less
i must confess my destany's manifest
to some gortex and sweats I make tracks like i'm homeless Rap orgies with Porgie and Bess
capture your bounty like Eliot Ness YES!
Bless you if you represent the FU
but I hex you, with some witches vu if you do-do
Voodo, I could what you do, EASY!
Believe me, frontin' niggaz

chorus
Interlude: Lauryn Hill
You can't run away from these styles I got
Oh baby, hey baby cause I got a lot oh yeah...
Anywhere you go, my whole crew gonna know
Oh baby, hey baby you can't hide from the black gold no...
Verse Three: Pras
Ready or not, refugees taking over
The buffalo soldier, dread like rasta
On the twelve hour flyby in my bomber

I refugee from Guatanamo Bay,
dance around the border like I'm Cassius Clay

There is definitely something about music...and I am trying to put my finger on it... Dubois was definitely obssessed with music...I just started thinking about this the other day....but there is definitely something there.
Buddhism
I think I finally understand what Buddhist philosophy has to say(this after a conversation with Rebecca). You may try to do whatever you want to me, but I know what I can do." Perhaps that is the sum of it.

Idlewild
Yesterday, while in Chicago, Rebecca and I saw Idlewild. I spent a while after watching the film trying to formulate my thoughts about it, which were very much mixed. The sentiments that I hold I find very much expressed in this Village Voice review of the film. Too much like the bad part of hip-hop today, the film cared nothing about misogyny and gave no voice whatsoever to the queer or that which is not heteronormative. The filmmakers had absolutely no problem showing dozens of shots of women's breast and them scantily clothed or in lude sexual positions. However, Andre Benjamin only bared his nipples. It definitely left something to be desired.
A Turtle's Dream
R and I got back from Chicago last night. It was a great time. All morning today, Abbey Lincoln's "A Turtle's Dream" played in my mind. I did a search for the lyrics and it is incredible that they are not to be found on the internet. However, I have transcribed them and here they are.
Often I think
When I'm all alone
and no one can see me but me
I think and I wonder just who I am
and how I came to be
I can swim the ocean and it's deep and wide
and in the house above me abide.
Maybe one day I'll fly like and eagle
fly like a bird and go and gooo
soar like an eagle
walk like a lion
although I won't be I know
but I can swim the ocean
and it's deep and wide
and in the house above me abide
I guess the time has come for me to go and look
for something thats moving in my house
you know moving slowly
is not really bad
you see the wonders of the deep
just waiting there for me
and I can swim the ocean and it's deep and wide
and in the house above me abide
and in the house above me abide
Often I think
When I'm all alone
and no one can see me but me
I think and I wonder just who I am
and how I came to be
I can swim the ocean and it's deep and wide
and in the house above me abide.
Maybe one day I'll fly like and eagle

I Loves You Porgy
Nina Simone
and there is a qualified difference between Nina's version and Barbra's version. This is Nina's.
I loves you, porgy,
Dont let him take me
Dont let him handle me
And drive me mad
If you can keep me
I wanna stay here with you forever
And Ill be glad
Yes I loves you, porgy,
Dont let him take me
Dont let him handle me
With his hot hands
If you can keep me
I wants to stay here with you forever
Ive got my man
I loves you, porgy,
Dont let him take me
Dont let him handle me
And drive me mad
If you can keep me
I wanna stay here with you forever
Ive got my man
Someday I know hes coming to call me
Hes going to handle me and hold me
So, it going to be like dying, porgy
When he calls me
But when he comes I know Ill have to go
I loves you, porgy,
Dont let him take me
Honey, dont let him handle me
And drive me mad
If you can keep me
I wanna stay here with you forever
Ive got my man

Conservative culture has made homophobia not only acceptable, but the norm. I just overheard a girl's conversation in which she said that someone was "such a fag" and that she "should just kill them." I think we need a total revolution....and some castration needs to occur as well.
I am about twenty-something pages into Bruce Perry's biography of Malcolm X. I don't like Mr. Perry's politics.
For some reason today I felt like I was in Aunt Earnestine's house. Eerie dejavu.
I just watched the Tom Cruise video from the Oprah Show on NPR. He truly was crazy. I know Oprah was scared, with him shaking her so. I know I'd have been.

ABC and Aids
ABC News dedicated a large segment of their show tonight to the topic of AIDS in Black America. I have very few complaints, although I think Jesse Jackson could have reached across and kicked Terry Moran. However, my thoughts on the lack of public concern and discussion within the Black community is that it is directly tied to the Black community's ever-present link to patriarchy. We have to eliminate patriarchy in order to exists. Get rid of it. Eradicate it.
I have for a long time been in love with Queen Latifah's Beauty Shop.
Abblie Lincoln- A Lovely Little Song
I work at the Palace Ballroom,
But gee, that Palace is cheap.
When I get back to my chilly apartment
I'm much too tired to sleep.
I'm one of those lady teachers,
A beautiful hostess, you know.
The kind the Palace features
At exactly a dime a throw.
Ten cents a dance,
That's what they pay me,
Gosh, how they wear me down!
Ten cents a dance,
Pansies and rough guys,
Tough guys who tear my gown.
Seven to midnight I hear drums,
Loudly the saxophone blows,
Trumpets are breaking my eardrums,
Customers crush my toes.
Sometimes I think I've found my hero,
But it's a queer old man.
All that you need is a ticket:
Come on, Big Boy, ten cents a dance!
Fighters and sailors and bowlegged tailors
Can pay for a ticket and rent me!
Butchers and barbers and rats from the harbor
And sweethearts my good luck has sent me!
Though I've a chorus of elderly beaus,
Stockings are porous with holes in the toes!
I'm dead at closing time!
Dance, sounding merry, it's only a dime!
But gee, that Palace is cheap.

I Wish I Knew What It Felt To Be Free
Nina Simone
I wish I knew how
It would feel to be free
I wish that I could break
All the chains holding me
I wish I could say
All the things that I’d like to say
Say ’em loud say ’em clear
For the whole round world to hear
I wish I could share
All the love that’s in my heart
Remove every doubt
It keeps us apart
And I wish you could know
What it means to be me
Then you’d see and agree
Every man should be free
I wish I could live
Like I’m longin’ to live
I wish I could give
What I’m longin’ to give
And I wish I could do
All the things I’d like to do
You know they’ll still miss part of you
Yes sir...
And I’m way way over due
I wish I could be like a bird up in the sky
How sweet it would be
If I found out I could fly
So long to my song
And look down upon ihe sea
And I sing because I know
I would see you
I sing because I know
I would see you
And I sing because I know
I would see you
To be free yea
I wish I knew how
It would feel to be free
I wish that I could break
All the chains holding me
I wish I could say
All the things that I’d like to say
Say ’em loud say ’em clear
For the whole round world to hear

Don't Smoke in Bed
Nina Simone
I left a note on his dresser
And my old wedding ring
With these few goodbye words
How can I sing
Goodbye old sleepy head
I'm packing you in like I said
Take care of everything
I'm leaving my wedding ring
Don't look for me
I'll get a hand
Remember darling
Don't smoke in bed
Don't look for me
I'll get a hand
Remember darling
Don't smoke in bed
My question with this song is- did she burn him up?
I left a note on his dresser
And my old wedding ring
With these few goodbye words
How can I sing
Goodbye old sleepy head
I'm packing you in like I said
Take care of everything
I'm leaving my wedding ring
Don't look for me
I'll get a hand
Remember darling
Don't smoke in bed
Don't look for me
I'll get a hand
Remember darling
Don't smoke in bed
My question with this song is- did she burn him up?

Just For Now-Nancy Wilson-One of My Favorites By Her
Why must it always be forever?
Why can't it be like just for now?
Lets just enjoy our sweet endeavour
and be clever just for now.
Forget that one of these tommorows
There's gonna be a price to pay
And though the future may hold some sorrows
we'll remember yesterday.
And so we've had the fling
and we've done most everything
yet, we'll remember
we will remember
that it was just
for now
Why can't it be like just for now?
Lets just enjoy our sweet endeavour
and be clever just for now.
Forget that one of these tommorows
There's gonna be a price to pay
And though the future may hold some sorrows
we'll remember yesterday.
And so we've had the fling
and we've done most everything
yet, we'll remember
we will remember
that it was just
for now
Rain Sometimes
Nancy Wilson
Rain sometimes
Money down the drain, sometimes
Reason to complain, sometimes
That's how it'll be
But there'll be something, sometimes
Lobster flown from Maine, sometimes
We'll ride the gravy train, sometimes
Just you wait and see
We may be stranded in the rain, sometimes
Dream our dreams in vain, sometimes
Lose more than we gain, sometimes
But this I guarantee
Love is not for sometimes
Love is for all time
For all time, for you and me
We may be stranded in the rain, sometimes
Lose more than we gain, sometimes
But this I guarantee
Love is not for sometimes
Love is for all time
For all time, for you and me
For you and me
For you and me
Rain sometimes
Money down the drain, sometimes
Reason to complain, sometimes
That's how it'll be
But there'll be something, sometimes
Lobster flown from Maine, sometimes
We'll ride the gravy train, sometimes

I've Been Searching For This Song So Long--Zoomin'
Lionel Richie
I may be just a foolish dreamer
But I don't care
'Cause I know my happiness is waiting out there somewhere
I'm searching for that silver lining
Horizons that I've never seen
Oh I'd like to take just a moment and dream my dream
Dream my dream
Zoom
I'd like to fly afr away from here
Where my mind is fresh and clear
And I'd find the love that I long to see
Where everybody can be what they wanna be
I'd like to greet the sun each morning
And walk amongst the stars at night
I'd like to know the taste of honey in my life
Well I've shared so many pains
And I've played so many games
But everyone finds the right way
Somehow
Somewhere
Someday
Zoom
I'd like to fly away far from here
Where my mind can be fresh and clear
And I'd find the love that I long to see
People can be what they wanna be
I wish the world were truly happy
Living as one
I wish the word they call freedom someday would come
Someday would come
Zoom
I'd like to fly far away from here
where my mind can be fresh and clear
And find the love that I long to see
Everybody acn be what they wanna be
Zoom
I'd like to fly away
Zoom
I'd like to fly away
Zoom
I'd like to fly away
You and me baby
Walking free
Don't you wanna go?
Don't you wanna go?
I may be just a foolish dreamer

I am so glad Michael won again! I did like Jeffrey's outfit, but he is an asshole. Go Michael!
There is this beautiful mulatto boy sitting across from me. He is 21. I am absolutely crazy about his hair. It is the same texture as mine. He has a beautiful face too, especially the nose.
"Brother"-hood
The power structure says at this time that there is no need for Feminism, Affirmative Action, Social Welfare, or Hate Crime legislation. Everybody is equal. We’re forty years past the Civil Rights Era. That solved every question, all of the problems, right? So, now is the time to be quiet, to keep your mouth shut and support your nation. Time to site around the table of “brotherhood” with your mouth shut and your hands in your lap attentively listening to the banter of your great white “brother.” You put on your fine, pressed suit and show your face, give an appearance of unity, but don’t let yourself be heard. It is not necessary and above all, its disloyal. You’ll be a troublemaker. You won’t fit in. You’ll disturb their peace and unity. Peace and unity, loyalty—what kind of words are these?
The vernacular of the Big Brother is demeaning, patronizing, and obliges “the rest of us” to take guarded steps and to always walk with a guardian, a protector, someone to watch over you. You are not capable of going out alone. It is phallocentrism in its newest form. “Brother”-hood. At present, this brother of ours is trying to scare us into submission=with terror alerts and links between bad boys-a group of which he interestingly leaves himself out He fails to mention that he once was in cahoots with this group that he now demonizes. Brother doesn’t mention that before Saddam and Osama became enemies numbers one and two, before they were the forces of evil, that both were on the payroll of the United States government, that Bin Laden, presumably the devil himself, was given money and other forms of aide to wage war against the Russians.
And so now we are supposed to ignore these facts and turn our attention away from matters of equality, humanity, economic security, and the protection of our basic civil and human rights and rally around the presidential agenda, with our mouths shut. It is the highest form of fascism when one is bid to silence one’s own voice in support of the “common good.” The effect is to negate the human dignity of a nation’s citizenry. To comply is to trap one’s own soul in a cage. The only solution is to eradicate this system.
Whenever there is a system that operates in such a manner that it becomes fascist and the society becomes so closed to dissent that it is equaled with treason, the blood has stopped flowing and it is time to abolish the system. In order to live, every branch of the body and of the human system must function and a system cannot function when the flow of ideas and creativity stop circulating.
Furthermore, in the preservation of one of our basic human rights, we cannot afford to let anyone; especially a government, stop our voices from flowing in order to galvanize public opinion or to wield the mask of national unity.

I must say that I very much like the Iranian President Ahmadenijad. I also think he is cute. He had some very good things to say and I have always been appreciative of his handling of Bush and U.S. imperialism. Mike Wallace gets on my nerves.
I am remembering my sister's grade school, St. Ambrose. It was a beautiful and inspiring school. I remember the stone and the wood and I remember the school was quite intriguing to me and I like d to explore it. My sister was in a school play there and they performed to Sammy Davis' Jr.'s "Hit the Road Jack." I very much enjoyed that. My sister's dance troupe, outside of the school also did a performance and my sister performed to Gloria Estefan's "Conga."
Dr. D is getting on my behind. I am going to get down to work.

Someone called in to WSFA and asked how stupid Montgomery County is for letting Dr. Purcell go from the Board of Education. Very, very stupid.
Jerusalem should be given to the U.N and made its headquaters. That would take it out of the hands of Israel and would give all of the peoples of the Middle East access.

Todays Terror Alerts
Firstly, I don't really believe anything that comes out of this administration or Tony the lapdog Blair unless it is corroborated by someone credible(not them). Alas, I have no doubt that there is someone out to Kick the United States' ass. The question, however, is not what should be done about it. The question is why they want to. This country learns nothing. You have to give everyone the very same respect for their humanity as you want them to give you.
My Grandmother says when they sent my Aunt Earnestine to teach at an integrated school Aunt Earnestine cried like a baby. My grandmother had been one of the first black teachers to integrate in Chicago by that time. She said she didnt cry, she just said her prayers and went on. As posted previously, when some white high school boys were going to throw snowballs at my grandmother and some other black teachers my grandmother's response was " I didnt get up at 4 o'clock in the morning to come over here to the northside and have you throw snowballs at me! Not one snowball better touch me or any of these other teachers! I swear to god I'll tear up the Northside of Chicago and this school with it!"

Project Runway
How did I know that Bradley was going to be out? Probably because he has no imagination and is quite dull really. I did not like what Ule made, which is a first. What was wrong with the back of Kayne's dress?! I didn't like it at all.Robert should have gone too--his outfit was horrid! His Jackie-O looked like she was drunk and she didn't want ANYBODY taking her picture.I am so glad Michael won! I love Diane von Furstenburg!
Congratulations to Ned Lamont! The Ignorant negroes of Atlanta who have no integrity will definitely pay for what they have done to Cynthia McKinney!

My Thoughts on Sexuality
I have for a long time been an adherent to Helene Cixous' theoryconcerning bisexuality, primarily holding the belief that everyone is bisexual to a degree. I remember my first introduction to Cixous'work as a freshman in college(thank you Chella!) which really enlightened me as to sex and provided a philosophy for understanding it. After that introduction, I recognized Cixous' theory imbedded within the characterization of the character Pierre on a re-read of Alice Walker's Possessing the Secret of Joy(I had read Possessingin high school, before reading Cixous--I would definitely love to ask Alice Walker about that). These two cornerstones in my literary/theoretical growth made me value and realize the ultimate freedom that we are supposedto have, but which most of us don't because we bow down to social constraints. Since that time, it very much amazes me how much that I have found that the rigid lies of sexuality become fluid in my own experiences, primarily in crossing boundaries(Anzaldua is coming into my mind)with socially defined straight men into the realms of the homoerotic. I find myself somewhat open-mouthed at the number of friendships that I have formed with men who have been blatantly straight and how easily those relationships become homoerotic. I am thinking at this moment of an experience that I had in befriending a jock that lived close by me-a young white male from Colorado attending graduate school. I had initially let him know that I was quite interested from the start--and he then informed me of his impenetrable straightness. However it quickly became homoerotic and definitely moved into the realm of queer. This leads me to ask, am I a queering agent? Furthermore and even more important to think about is this all too fresh discovery as to the fluidity of sexuality, and particularly male sexuality. The only way I can sum this up is by quoting Yentl--"The More I Learn, the Less I know." There is always more to discover. We simply have to open ourselves up to the discovery.
Steve Oney will definitely be going to hell. I cant believe he tried to put Tom Watson in the same category as Jesse Jackson.

They chose John Roberts as Chief Justice because he is a young white male. I am absolutely certain of it.
Thursday, August 03, 2006
I just finished watching Ruby's Bucket of Blood with Angela Bassett(which Ive seen before) with two women born at least three decades before the end of segregation. They both had to get up and leave right before that white woman walked in on Angela Basset's character and that white man.

Ghetto Heaven
Family Stand
You know I love my baby
My baby loves me
My day, it gets so heavy
I need a little company
It's quarter to 11; it's time to make some ghetto heaven...
Ghetto heaven
I need a little ghetto heaven...
Nana likes brandy, especially peach
She keeps it by the radio
And listens to the Reverend preach
It's 10:07, and time to get some ghetto heaven...

Ghetto heaven
She needs a little ghetto heaven...
Baby, baby, baby
All I need in this world is you
And when you're gone
Baby, baby, baby
Your touch, your kiss always gets me through
Sister needs her sugar
To get her through the day
She doesn't have the money
But always got a way to pay
It's 2:07; it's time to sell some ghetto heaven...

Tennessee
by Arrested Development
Lord I've really been real stressed
Down and out, losin ground
Although I am black and proud
Problems got me pessimistic
Brothers and sisters keep messin up
Why does it have to be so damn tuff?
I don't know where I can go
To let these ghosts out of my skull
My grandmas past, my brothers gone
I never at once felt so alone
I know you're supposed to be my steering wheel
Not just my spare tire (home)
But lord I ask you (home)
To be my guiding force and truth (home)
For some strange reason it had to be (home)
He guided me to Tennessee (home)
(Chorus) Take me to another place
Take me to another land
Make me forget all that hurts me
Let me understand your plan
Lord it's obvious we got a relationship
Talkin to each other every night and day
Although you're superior over me
We talk to each other in a friendship way
Then outta nowhere you tell me to break
Outta the country and into more country
Past Dyesburg into Ripley
Where the ghost of childhood haunts me
Walk the roads my forefathers walked
Climbed the trees my forefathers hung from
Ask those trees for all their wisdom
They tell me my ears are so young (home)
Go back to from whence you came (home)
My family tree my family name (home)
For some strange reason it had to be (home)
He guided me to Tennessee (home)
Chorus
Now I see the importance of history
Why people be in the mess that they be
Many journeys to freedom made in vain
By brothers on the corner playin ghetto games
I ask you lord why you enlightened me
Without the enlightment of all my folks
He said cuz I set myself on a quest for truth
And he was there to quench my thirst
But I am still thirsty...
The lord allowed me to drink some more
He said what I am searchin for are
The answers to all which are in front of me
The ultimate truth started to get blurry
For some strange reason it had to be
It was all a dream about Tennessee

George Bush's Comments
Violent and Cold-blooded? He must be talking about the United States, U.S. imperialism, and the United States military.

This situation in Iraq is not going well at all. The ones suffering the most, and that I feel very sorry for are those who arenot being allowed to go home. They should all go home and leave the people of Iraq in peace, in themselves.
Keith Boykin is a horrid bourgeois capitalist. I don't like him at all.
Fidel and Chavez in the Home of Che
God bless Fidel Castro and Hugo Chavez! How beautiful that they made a pilgrimage to the childhood home of El Che! I should be so fortunate! What a beautiful journey and how inspiring!

Raising the Minimum Wage
I don't think anyone in this country should make under $10 an hour. There is a dire need to restructure the wealth in this country.

I attended two funerals today. Both werequite profound. My cousin Wynette was a beautiful soul. I remember long nights as a young boy sitting in her salon while my mother, grandmother, and sister got their hair done. Wy was a classy woman. Always on top of things. She was also very accomplished. She taught at the technical college and was quite well -regarded. She suffered horribly and died much too soon. She suffered horribly with cancer and died much too soon. She was only 67 years old. God rest her soul. The other one was my cousin Emma, who used to keep me sometimes after school when I first moved down South. Beautiful spirit and always doted on me. They will rest well.

From Cynthia McKinney
By now you've heard the news that I am in a runoff election. For
those of you who have seen the film American Blackout, you know that
in 2002, crossover voting was used successfully by Republicans to
oust me from Congress. I have received anecdotal information today
that crossover voting by Republicans occurred in my Primary Election
yesterday. That is, that Republicans want to dictate to loyal
Democrats who their representative can or must not be. We are
analyzing the returns now--such that we can--with Diebold's
electronic voting machines, to see if our anecdotal information is
reflected in the numbers.
Additionally, turnout around the state was extremely low. We are
also analyzing the turnout numbers for our district to see what they
reveal. Of course, when that analysis is completed, I'll be sending
that to you.
You probably are aware of the other issues that arose for voters
during the voting day. Such as showing up to vote and finding closed
precincts that had been moved to different locations, malfunctioning
electronic voting machines, election officials undertrained on the
new Diebold electronic pollbook, and not to mention a Tom DeLay-
inspired mid-decennial redistricting.
Right now, I need your help for an August 8 runoff election.
This begins a new election cycle and therefore donation limits are
$2100 per individual and $4200 per couple. However, if you have
already given as much as you can give, please pass this on to your
family and friends and ask them to help. Every contribution is
needed. I thank you for your help.
If you have not yet given, please help us make a difference before
election day on Tuesday, August 8th.
It's hot in Georgia and we need to feed, ice, water, t-shirt,
pamphlet, gas up, and otherwise encourage our volunteers. Ours has
been a volunteer effort, including the website that will process your
e-donations.
Please send what you can by mail to:

Morgan Goodson's father was named Philip(Phil) Goodson. Some say he was a mulatto. His mother was a Native American named Pee Y(Im spelling it phonetically because I dont know how else to do it). He had four brothers: Henry(who was sold to Oklahoma),Perry,George, and Charlie. Philip and Pee Y had one girl named Rhodie. Philip Goodson also had an outside child with Caroline Roper. Her name was Mary Odom.
Urgent Plea from Sonia Sanchez
Sisters/Brothers/Humans,
I need your support. 11 mothers/grandmothers (including myself) were
arrested last week after staging a sit-in at a local recruitment office.
We went to enlist--thinking if they sent us, we could talk to Iranian
mothers/grandmothers about ending this war we're in. We were released
that same night but were informed that we would go to trial on December
1, 2006 at 8:30am. The trial is to be held at the Community Courthouse
in Philadelphia. I'm asking that you all come out to support us on that
day.
In love/struggle,
Sonia Sanchez

I can't believe the NAACP is going to allow George Bush to deliver an address to them. That man needs to be castrated and we need to get rid of the leadership of the NAACP! Where is Merlie Evers?!
Bush should go to hell. Someone needs to teach Israel a few lessons. Chief among them humility. I hope they dont get anything out of this current war.

Making Connections
I am most assured that there are connections between the entire Texas redistricting scandal(including the wonderful walkout by the Democrats) and the Republican effort to try and kill the Voting Rights Act. Evil people will go to hell.

Turmoil at Columbia
Read here about protests concerning Columbia University's plans to take over 17 acres of West Harlem for University expansion. Community members, harkening back to the 1968 protests, are calling for letting the community decide what to do with the land. Also of concern at Columbia, the powers that be have decided to shut down the African Studies program. Students and faculty are up in arms and are calling for support in their protests. A link to the student and faculty blog for the African Studies department is on the links side of the page under Urgent issues.

Let the River Run(I Absolutely Adore This Song)
by Carly Simon
We're coming to the edge,
running on the water,
coming through the fog,
your sons and daughters.
Let the river run,
let all the dreamers
wake the nation.
Come, the New Jerusalem.
Silver cities rise,
the morning lights
the streets that meet them,
and sirens call them on
with a song.
It's asking for the taking.
Trembling, shaking.
Oh, my heart is aching.
We're coming to the edge,
running on the water,
coming through the fog,
your sons and daughters.
We the great and small
stand on a star
and blaze a trail of desire
through the dark'ning dawn.
It's asking for the taking.
Come run with me now,
the sky is the color of blue
you've never even seen
in the eyes of your lover.
Oh, my heart is aching.
We're coming to the edge,
running on the water,
coming through the fog,
your sons and daughters.
It's asking for the taking.
Trembling, shaking.
Oh, my heart is aching.
We're coming to the edge,
running on the water,
coming through the fog,
your sons and daughters.
Let the river run,
let all the dreamers
wake the nation.
Come, the New Jerusalem.
We're coming to the edge,
running on the water,

Let the river run,

There is a pernicious conservatism imbedded within the Black community, I do believe inherited or learned from the Great White Father. It will be the downfall of both the Black Community and this country.
The Best Times "Grandma's Song"
by Diane Reeves
Silver gray hair neatly combed in place
There were four generations of love on her face
She was so wise, no surprise passed her eyes
She's seen it all
I was a child, oh, about three or four
All day I ask questions
At night I ask more
But whenever, she never, would ever turn me away
No, no oh woh
I'd say how can I be sure what is right or wrong
And why does what I want always take so long
Please tell me where does God live
And why won't He talk to me
I'd say Grandma what is love
Will I ever find out
Why are we so poor, what is life about
I wanna know the answers before I fall off to sleep
Woh hoh woh hoh
She saw the smile as she tucked me in
Then she pulled up that old rockin' chair once again
But tonight she was slightly, remarkably
Different somehow
Slowly she rocked looking half asleep
Grandma yawned as she stretched
Then she started to speak
What she told me, would mold me and hold me
Together inside
Yeah yeah yeah
She said all the things you ask
You will know someday
But you have got to live in patient way
God put us here by fate
And by fate that means better days
She said, child we are all moons in the dark of night
Ain't no mornings gonna come till the time is right
Can't get no better days lest you make through the night
You gotta make through the night, yes you do
You can't get through no, better days
Unless you make it through the night (baby)
Oh, hoh, you will see those better days
But you gotta be patient
Be patient, oh baby, be patient
Later that year at the turn of spring
Heaven sent angels down and gave Grandma her wings
Now, she's flyin', and slidin' and glidin'
In better days
And although I'm all grown-up
I still get confused
I stumble through the dark
Getting bumped and bruised
When night gets in my way
I could still hear my Grandma say
I can hear her say
I can hear her sayin'
You can't get through no, better days
Unless you make it through the night (baby)
Oh hoh, you will see those better days
But you gotta be patient
Child, do you hear me, yeah
Well, well, well, well
You can't get to no, no better days
Unless you make it, you got to make it
You got to make it through the night
Oh Grandma, oh Grandma
Do you see me now, lady
Oh oh oh oh oh...

More Than You Know
Whether you are here or yonder
Whether you are false or true
Whether you remain or wander
I’m growing fonder of you
Even though your friends forsake you
Even though you don't succeed
Wouldn't I be glad to take you
Give you the break you need
More than you know
More than you know
Man of my heart, I love you so
Lately I find
You're on my mind
More than you know
Whether you're right, whether you're wrong
Man of my heart, I'll string along
You need you so
More than you'll ever know
Loving you the way that I do
There's nothing I can do about it
Loving may be all you can give
But honey, I can't live without it
Oh how I'd cry, oh how I'd cry
If you got tired, and said goodbye
More than I'd show
More than you'd ever know
Whether you are false or true
Whether you remain or wander
I’m growing fonder of you
Even though your friends forsake you
Even though you don't succeed
Wouldn't I be glad to take you

Questionable Mexican Election Results
I wonder how much Bush and Co have figured into the outcome of the Mexican presidential elections? I am sure they definitely do not want a Latin country, just south of the U.S. border to become leftist and in league with Venezuela and Cuba. Hmm... Oh this wicked country and its machinations.

Star Jones Leaving the View
The entire fiasco that is The View will seriously have to shake itself of this royal mess. Star Jones has proven herself to have a great dignity and grace and also to be a wonderful power player. Barbara Walters and the hidden giant Bill Getty thought that they could poo poo away Star, but to put it bluntly, Star has fucked Barbara royally and didn't even kiss her. You go girl. Another thing that can be said for star is that she IS the consummate lawyer and she has displayed that and combined it flawlessly with her public celebrity over the past few days. Barbara Walters might get Rosie O'Donnell, but both she and Rosie walk away from this smelling like shit.... Joy Behar do you really want to stay at The View? Finally, I think that what happened...when it boils right down to it...is that when star lost all of her weight(and I think she looked better with it, but you go girl and make your decisions) Barbara Walter's lost her mammy and therefore didn't want her around anymore.

We should return to the politics of neighborliness. I see so many people living inside their boxes, caught within the web that capitalism and American cultural mores create.
Thoughts This Morning
Oprah said something a few days ago that I very much agree with. She said that this entire country is sick. I wholeheartedly agree. Yesterday I finally figured out how to make cookie dough from scratch-- and the cookies were good!

Sears Tower Suspects
I think that Robert Mueller and others know that they will have to release these men and I think it is despicable that they are playing politics with their lives. These people need to be castrated and made to stop trying to play god.
Troop Withdrawal Plans
Congress will learn soon enough that you cannot play electoral politics with bullets and guerrilla warfare.

I saw Fridalast night. Beautiful movie! I remember having read somewhere that Frida Kahlo had an affair with Josephine Baker--but I didn't know she had one with Leon Trotsky!
