This song has held a great place with me. Always moves me and gets into my bones.
There may be things I may not know
there may be places that I may can't go
but there is one thing that I do know
that My god is real for (s)he has washed and made me whole
his(her) love for me is like pure gold
yes my god is real for I can feel him(her) in my soul
yes my god is real
he's real in my soul
yes my god is real
for he has washed and made me whole
his(her) love for me is like pure gold
yes my god is real for I can feel
him in my soul.

I am on the campus of Alabama State today and I have just found a picture of the building that was named for my cousin. The building was a music building and it was named the Elizabeth Brown Deramus Hall.
My posts will be less frequent this summer as I am at home. Alas, I made my grandmother quite mad the other day when I responded that she grew up rich as she had said that during the depression they had two desserts for dinner every day and her father always took the newspaper. She was fit to be tied.

I woke up this morning with my mind on Mattie Roper and Morgan Goodson. Oh, my ancestors.

I think French, U.S., U.N., and European military presence in any shape or form on the continent of Africa needs to end.
Todd Gitlin speaks of a tradition of thinking of civilian life as expendable, of carrying out mass murder in a driven cause and lists such people as Hitler and Mao Tse Tung as examples. I don't know how well those two go together, fitting in such a tradition, but I do see that almost every president the United States has ever had fits into such a tradition.
I have been thinking about Weapons of Mass Destruction.and II feel there should be a concerted, organized effort to demand that the United States get rid of its Nuclear and Biological weapons. I also think that the United States is scared, which is why it is posturing against Iran and North Korea.

I just finished reading Che Guevara's farewell letter to Fidel Castro and to Cuba. You can read it here. It just came to me that Che Guevara and Martin Luther King, Jr both died at 39.

The Onslaught of Fascism: Fascism Watch
Two news stories today hint at the accelerating slope on which the United States is quickly moving towards fascism. This article discusses the NSA gag order that was imposed on US librarians, especially during Congressional debate over whether to renew the patriot act. Secondly,NPR reportsthat the US Supreme Court just ruled(with new bastard Olito being the deciding vote) that public employees are restricted on their first amendment privileges.
I've realized why I don't like gyms. I don't like machines. I am striving to be loose and free...to allow myself to become familiar with my own humanity. Machines destroy and hamper humanity. Id rather dance...or do yoga.

Patti Labelle's Song from For Colored Girls
somebody/anybody
sing a black girl's song
bring her out
to know herself
to know you
but sing her rhythms
carin/struggle/hard times
sing her song of life
she's been dead so long
closed in silence so long
she doesn't know the sound
of her own voice
her infinite beauty
she's half-notes scattered
without rhythm/no tune
sing her sighs
sing the song of her possibilities
sing a righteous gospel
let her be born
let her be born
& handled warmly.
sing a black girl's song
bring her out
to know herself
to know you
but sing her rhythms
carin/struggle/hard times
sing her song of life
she's been dead so long
closed in silence so long
she doesn't know the sound
of her own voice
her infinite beauty
she's half-notes scattered
without rhythm/no tune
sing her sighs
sing the song of her possibilities
sing a righteous gospel
let her be born

I just watched One Life to Live for the first time in ages. They killed Todd Manning. Horrid! When I was a little boy, we used to watch Loving, All My Children, One Life to Live, and General Hospital in that order. Oh, soap operas.

I am remembering when I was a little boy in Chicago and it would get really hot in the city....unbearable at night to even stay in the house...and we would pack up our cooler and blankets and pillows and head over to the lake and sleep in the park, underneath the stars. And there would be hundreds of people there, all escaping the intensity of the summer heat.
