Please Read Frank Rich's Article in the New York Times Concerning Torture
This topic is even more depressing than I care to own up to. Ever since our victory in November, Ive sort of been on a happy pill so to speak and have not even glistened at the news. However, as the truth comes to light and all of the dirtiness and filth of the past eight years starts pouring out into public view, it is a horrible revisiting of just how far towards fascism and pure evil we came. We still have to be vigilant and we need to cleanse and purge this evil from our systems.
The torture policies set in place by the Bush administration will forever be a tarnish upon America. The most damning assessment in Rich's article:
In other words, the ticking time bomb was not another potential Qaeda attack on America but the Bush administration’s ticking timetable for selling a war in Iraq; it wanted to pressure Congress to pass a war resolution before the 2002 midterm elections. Bybee’s memo was written the week after the then-secret (and subsequently leaked) “Downing Street memo,” in which the head of British intelligence informed Tony Blair that the Bush White House was so determined to go to war in Iraq that “the intelligence and facts were being fixed around the policy.” A month after Bybee’s memo, on Sept. 8, 2002, Cheney would make his infamous appearance on “Meet the Press,” hyping both Saddam’s W.M.D.s and the “number of contacts over the years” between Al Qaeda and Iraq. If only 9/11 could somehow be pinned on Iraq, the case for war would be a slamdunk.
To think that elected officials in the United States could approve the waterboarding of a human being 84 times and carry out other horrendous and inhumane acts all in the name of justifying their already evil deeds is sickening. There must be justice. We must have everyone responsible for these acts brought to trial.

Arlen Specter is Now a Democract-Oh My God!
Great news as it puts progressives one vote closer to a filibuster-proof majority in the senate. Although, that should be no deterance to making bold, progressive action--I would make every single one that stands up and threatens a filibuster stand up there and read until they drop. Now, we need to get Al Franken seated(what is the holdup really?) and then we can move!
Reps Woolsey, Lewis, Ellison, and Edwards Arrested at Darfur Protest
