Turmoil at Columbia
Read here about protests concerning Columbia University's plans to take over 17 acres of West Harlem for University expansion. Community members, harkening back to the 1968 protests, are calling for letting the community decide what to do with the land. Also of concern at Columbia, the powers that be have decided to shut down the African Studies program. Students and faculty are up in arms and are calling for support in their protests. A link to the student and faculty blog for the African Studies department is on the links side of the page under Urgent issues.
