This is a report that I saw on the BBC today. Britain and the United States have more surveillance of the people within their country than any others. Canada and Germany have the least.

It would be interesting to compare and contrast this fact with the actual and perceived levels of Public Safety in the countries you mention.
Do all these cameras make the populace feel safer, or do they serve to engender a feeling of insecurity? I suspect it is the latter and their purpose is to make manifest the Government’s policy to make Americans feel insecure in order to justify the continued erosion of our rights in the pursuit of Homeland Security.
