I think one thing should be pointed out with respect to both the Tawana Brawley and the Duke Rape cases. The case is not being made that nothing ever happened. There is no evidence on which to convict. Anything could have happened to either of those two women.

Untrue. From Roy Cooper's statment, "The result is that these cases are over, and no more criminal proceedings will occur," and
"Based on the significant inconsistencies between the evidence and the various accounts given by the accusing witness, we believe these three individuals are innocent of these charges."

Coming from the state attorney general, these words (especially the use of the word "innocent" rather than the phrase "not guilty") state that the official position of the state of North Carolina is that "nothing ever happened".

Despite that, I still believe something did happen, but the accuser's lack of credibility is an insurmountable barrier to ever learning the truth.
