Noam Chomsky Assesses the RealPolitik behind the Tea Party Movement

This era we are in now closely mirrors that we found ourselves in the first decade of the 20th Century and in the 1890s. The Tea Party people....and the populist movements of that era closely resemble each other--although, I must say, the populists of the 1890s were a lot more progressive than the Tea Party people. Although, there were those considered populists such as Tom Watson of Georgia who could shout Nigger as loud as the rest of them.... We need new Mother Joneses and Mary Leases...we need Ida B. Wells...hell, we could have used a Lolita Lebron during the Bush era...I wonder....where were the Tea Partiers when Bush was in office and all had gone to hell? I think the racist attitudes embedded in this movement far outweigh and definitely more clearly define this movement than any anger over taxes...
