Delta pilots and other airline workers are rightfully considering a strike to stave off having their benefits cut in order to save Delta Airlines from bankruptcy. I believe that this strike should be supported.

So how does Delta keep itself from bankruptcy? The corporation's biggest expense is penion/benefit management. The executives of the company are the lowest paid of any major airline. The pilots are in the top 3 in terms of pay. The company is liable to its stockholders to not only break even, but to turn a profit for the people who have invested in them.

How much do the executives make? How much do the pilots make? Lets get serious....Also, cutting worker benefits should be the LAST thing considered. I do even believe that a company should go bankrupt before taking action on the livelihood of its workers. Corporatismis not the end all be all.....indeed it is wicked.... If I were you I would question my values as to what they are....

Go bankrupt before taking action against the livlihood of its workers? So kill it all instead of trying to fix it? Corporations do not 'work' for their employees...they work for their stockholders.

The livelihood and wellbeing of the people come before the prosperity of the company....fuck the company...and the stockholders.... Who I "work " for does not determine my human value....thank you very much.... I think you have been processed far too much as far as capitalism goes...

Another reasonable assertion is that a company is more good to its workers with slashed benefits than a company that closes its doors because its stockholders and executives no longer wish to deal with massive debt and unprofitability. I'm not saying it's right, and I'm not saying they don't need to check their sense of responsibility toward other people... But you say it's better for the company to go under. What happens to the workers when the company folds? They get (ever-reducing) benefits from the government for a short while, and that's it. What if they have a family? What if they have many other mouths to feed? What if they are basically unskilled laborers?

I think concessions should be made from both sides. It's not as if the airline industry is so strong that people can just quit their jobs at airline X and go to airline Y.

The picture is definitely not so simple. And I don't think it was a simple case of the airlines asking the workers to take cuts in their benefits/pay(which has been done before in many different industries). What has happened is that the company filed bankruptcy and then asked the court to allow it to SUSPEND their benefits in order so that the company might save itself. Unethical and I definitely would not let them do it. I encourage the workers to strike.

So if the company can't suspend benefits to save itself...what should it do? Go under and leave the entire employee body to the government?

How would the employee body belong to the government? Alas, they might ASK and the workers might give up SOME of their benefits, but alas, I wouldnt give up any.

Brandon, I believe you might just be a communist.
