A Day Without Immigrants

On May 1, we are calling No Work, No School, No Sales, and No Buying, and also to have rallies around symbols of economic trade in your areas (stock exchanges, anti-immigrant corporations, etc.) to protest the anti-immigrant movements across the country.

On May 1, we will wear "white" a T-Shirt and/or white arm bands, we can paint and write our political demands (and creative arts) at the T-shirt go to rally, protest, strike, vigil, work or school--we will have a ocean of white T-shirts with our political demands from east coast to west coast, at the street, work place, school, bus station & store... and our voice will be LOUD AND CLEAR AND CANNOT BE SILENT FOR EVER!

We will settle for nothing less than full amnesty and dignity for the millions of undocumented workers presently in the U.S. We believe that increased enforcement is a step in the wrong direction and will only serve to facilitate more tragedies along the Mexican-U.S. border in terms of deaths and family separation.

The sentiments in the US are not anti-immigrant...they are anti-ILLEGAL immigrant. A large majority of Americans have no problem with those who choose to come to this country legally.

Whatever. They are bullshit! May the Mexicans retake Texas, California, and everything else in between!

Illegal immigrants are coming in to fill a void - there are jobs that US workers just do not want to do. It's called free market aka capitalism... something the USG has been trying to get the rest of the world to fall in line with. Anonymous, would you deny your own citizens the benefits of a free-market economy?

Illegal immigrants do not pay into a system that you think should support them. Why should they receive the benefits of an educational system for which they do not pay taxes? What about social services?

They do pay taxes.

@Anonymous
Like Brandon said, they do pay taxes. income taxes as well as value added taxes whenever they buy something from any store. A simple internet search will tell you that. Interestingly enough, you mention social services... without immigration the US will have less working age people supporting an increasing amount of senior citizens. So I would say that in the long term legalizing the immigrants is good for the U.S. Also, it increases diversity.

Practically, what do you propose to do about illegal immigrants? It's cheaper for them to come into the country than for you guys to send them back. Also, if they have children born in the US, those children have the right to be U.S. citizens and they might come back later, along with their parents, legally. That would just be postponing the problem, would it not?

If sending them back is too expensive, and it doesn't matter in the long run anyway, wouldn't it make more sense to legalize the ones already here so that they at least have the ability to not be exploited? In the end the only way to cease illegal immigration is to ensure that they have similar quality of life and opportunities in the home countries as they do here. I think legalizing the people who are already here is a good step in that direction.

These people heads have gotten too big for their shirts. Don't they know if they are not here, the work will still get done; they will have to hire Americans. I think next they are going to be demanding higher wages then we will see how much power they really have.
