What is the Amero?

Today, in conversation, I heard someone speaking about the emergence of the Amero as the currency that will take the place of the dollar once it fizzles out(which it is steadily and increasingly doing). In essence, the U.S., Canada, and Mexico would all come under the same currency, modeled after the Euro. I want to come out and state my opposition to such a measure now.
