It was a beautiful day and an even more beautiful evening. Anne Feeney made me cry at the anti-war raly their in Terra Haute, especially with her stirring rendition of "Have You Been to Jail for Justice?" and the reading of the names was powerful. I have never felt more comfortable or have I ever been more completely at home than this evening in a room full of socialists, unionists, and progressives at the Eugene V. Debs dinner. It was beautiful. And people on the left know how to dress..... We heard beautiful and stirring words from Charles King, Secretary of the Eugene V.Debs Foundation, Cecil Roberts from the United Mine Workers of America, and the honoree of the night, Thomas Frank, who wrote Whats the Matter with Kansas? I got to meet all three and they were great and I got to socialize and meet with some others as well. It was a great evening.

It is wonderful and energizing to be among others who share a progressive vision. I don't know much about the Eugene Debs Foundation, although I did order a t-shirt from them once. :) I do belong to the Socialist Party USA, and the party does consider itelf the the direct heir to the party of Debs.
